Costs  for Mediation and Empowered To Talk

Please Note : 

-     We ask you to commit to a minimum charge of three hours. (Charges include the study of a reasonable quantity of papers and documents submitted at least 7 days prior to the mediation / Empowered To Talk meet.  For Empowered To Talk it will also include a pre meeting private talk for each individual of approx 15 mins each usually done in advance during the preceding week via video chat.  If each party would prefer to book a longer pretalk this can be arranged so long as it applies equally to all parties and all parties agree).

-     Mediations that lead to a further mediation (eg to agree a settlement, review a plan of action, monitor progress etc) will receive a 20% discount on the additional mediation. 

 

-     A half day mediation consists of 4 hours

 

-     A full day mediation consists of 8 hours

Participants may ask for breaks any time they wish.  Its your day.

-     It is usual for payment for mediations to be paid 7 days prior to the mediation date. 

​

-     Pro Bono mediations are sometimes available as a one to two hour time slot (but is subject to availability). These are agreed subject to need and circumstances and you are invited to contribute to costs if you can.  (Outside costs will be chargeable such as venue hire and travel).  Can be in person or by zoom.   Please enquire.

OUR OFFER

It is common to have to travel to your place of mediation.  In recognition of your commitment, and to facilitate the journey to the Isle of Wight Mediation Centre, we offer a deal to both sets of particpants of a refund in ferry costs per party if you are travelling by car, to a maximum of £150.  This deal is available where a party's mediation fees are £1,000 or more.  To clarify, it is where each party's fees exceed £1,000 each party will qualify for the discount.   Enquire to see if you qualify for the ferry refund upon receipt of your crossing charge.  Alternatively, we may be able to offer company discounts for ferry bookings.

Each party pays based on two parties.  Where there are families which is potentially more complex, please feel free to discuss

Notes : 

​

-     Mediations up to a value of £49,000 are generally expected to complete within a half day period, being 4 hours.  Values above this allow for more complex situations and allow for 8 hours being a full mediation day.  If the mediation needs to exceed the 4 or 8 hours (for example if settlement is close eg within an hour or so) we can agree a fee (often the equivalent of the hourly rate for that days fee).  The additional payment will be made at the time to enable to process to proceed.  In addition, further mediation can be organised, discussed and agreed if required.

-     If, during your 4 hour mediation, you consider a half day will not be enough time and a day's mediation is now required, subject to availability, the mediation can be agreed to continue at the additional charge of £250 making the charges no more than the equivalent charge of the next band of fees from £50,000 to £250,000.

​

-     Please note that conversely, mediations can also be more successful than expected and conclude sooner than anticipated.

​

-     During or at the end of a zoom mediation, you may conclude a face to face mediation should or could now take place.  On occasion participants find toward the end of the mediation, in order to achieve agreement, or facilitate ongoing repair, that face to face is now called for.  Please feel confident to suggest an in person meet and we will support exploring this.  (A 20% discount on a follow through mediation will be given whether face to face zoom or in person).

At Isle of Wight Mediation, we specialise in facilitating constructive conversation and negotiation in a structured, relaxed environment, to reach mutually beneficial agreements. Our approach focuses on promoting resolution to avoid, in so far as is possible, a win or lose situation.  Commonly all concerned move into a space where agreement on the outcome is reached.  We take pride in our ability to facilitate the solutions you reach to make the agreement.
